Tips for this Season
Winter is here with temperatures dropping, shorter days and less time being spent outside. That doesn't mean it's time for a break from landscaping - it just means a little less to do. There are lots of seasonal flowers that brighten your yard this time of year. Try planting pansies or cyclamens to bring in some color or Louisiana Phlox to bring in some beautiful green that will burst with color come February.
Our top tip for the winter months is mulch, mulch, mulch! It is very important to keep 3-4" of mulch on all your flower beds and trees. This helps protect plants from our frigid weather by retaining warmth and encourages stronger root systems to grow in preparation of the spring blooms. Remember that weeds don't take the winter off and mulch will also help prevent weed growth.
In addition, don't forget to water. Dehydrated plants have a much harder time surviving a freeze so if it's not raining, remember to thoroughly water all your plant beds.
Got Roses? Now is a good time to plant and/or transplant roses. Wait until early February to prune and only water as needed. With proper pruning now, your roses will look beautiful in the spring - which is just around the corner!
